Remembrance

My thoughts on this Remembrance Sunday are with my dearest Grandfather, Paddy Coote and my Great Uncles, that sadly lost their lives whilst serving for the RAF in World War II. I hope now that they are all re-united with my Granny, Mum and Aunt and can again be a family all together. I love you all. My heart too goes out to all those that are bravely putting their lives on the line still this day and for all those families left behind broken hearted.

My Grandfather bottom right after winning The Sword of Honour, beating Douglas Bader into 2nd place. You can read more of my Grandfather here.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Thank you Catherine, what a great blog post.
My Grandpa was a navigator in the RAF in WWII, and my boyfriend is a pilot serving with them now. I also have spent today thinking of how brave they are and how luck we are that they were and are so brave.

And yes, I too believe that where ever these brave men of WWII are they have certainly earnt their place and are probably having a fantastic party with all of their loved ones.

I am always amazed, looking at the family photos from the war era of all the grinning young men raring to go. It's hard to fathom how sometimes a whole family can get wiped out, and yet others, like my pappa's had all 6 boys fight and survive. On the flip side my gran's elder brother, the only boy in her family that was old enough to go to the war, did not come home. We should be the grateful and thankful to them all for putting themselves in the line of fire so that we could be free

Thinking of you & your family just now, Catherine... Thank you for this lovely post. We will never forget those who gave of their lives so we may be free. We travel to the US on Friday to be with family for Thanksgiving and celebrate birthdays--very excited! TONS to do, though... LOL! I hope to visit at your place at least the once before we leave. :o) Happy Days, my friend ((BIG HUGS))

Catherine - Such a special photo and a very special tribute to your grandfather. We should all be grateful to those who serve our countries and have given so much so that we can all be safe and free. Kudos to you for making this special tribute~~

Hello Catherine I hope you get this message.
I am researching a book on Irish Rugby Internationals that died in both wars. You grandfather being one.
Firstly I was hoping I could use the photo with the sword of honour in any potential book.
